The leaf bases of a Traveller's palm. The name refers to the fact that rain water collects inside the bases of the leaves which can be drunk by thirsty travellers. The plant is very dramatic with huge banana-like leaves and is an enormous relative of the better-known Bird of paradise flower, Strelitzia reginae. The botanical name is Ravenala madagascariensis and it is native to Madagascar.
