clear glass bulb with lights on

I wanted to achieve a light being surrounded by impending darkness that shines brightly, in a hopeless situation. This lamp in my apartment seemed perfect. I took the picture with all the lights off with the lamp on and in the editing process took down the highlights and added some color.
