Playing in the ocean is a great way to practice radical acceptance. Sometimes you go shoot and as you enter the water, the waves disappear and there is nothing obvious to shoot. Now you have two choices: get annoyed or adapt your perception and focus on something new. In those cases I let go of shooting surf and focus on shooting the water, which is always there. This is a great analogy for life. You can’t control the cards you’ve been dealt but you can certainly change the way you’re going to play them.
