Once a year, 1.2 million people converge on Koenji to see the 2 day Awa Odori Festival. After the dancing finishes, everyone continues to celebrate into the night. Restaurants in the area are small and hold only a handful people, so tables, people and parties spill out onto the roads where everyone drinks and eats together in high spirits after the day of excitement.
