This photo was taken on New Year’s Eve in New Zealand. We were staying in at a holiday park and the owner had passed out sparklers to all of the kids as they were setting off New Year’s fireworks. I snapped this photo as my brother lit up one of his sparklers. The lighting is fitting with the New Year’s theme because the contrasting light and dark sides of his face show how we try and cast away the dark sides of ourselves and pursue our best self at the New Year.
