Paraty´s Historic Center dates back to the years 1820s. The Historic Center, considered by UNESCO as "the most harmonious colonial architectonic set ", is declared a National Patrimony and it is preserved by IPHAN (“National Historic and Artistic Patrimony Institute”). Its streets, protected by chains that prevent cars from passing, also preserve the colonial charm, allied to a varied commerce and to very intense artistic and cultural expressions.
