On a visit to the killing fields of Choeung Uk in the Cambodian capital of Phnom Penh, the colorful wristbands found near grave sites caught my attention. While this does seem out of place at a historic location where the violation of human rights, inhumane killings, and torture of fellow citizens constantly occured under the Khmer Rouge led by Pol Pot, the diversity of colors sets it part from similar sites that immortalizes the actions Nazi Germany took against the Jews. It sends a message of hope, peace, and diversity, reminding us that the good will defeat the darkness in the end.
