On a day when the wind was screaming down Wasdale, and tearing the top from the lake, an ascent of the classic Central Buttress seemed very unlikely. Miraculously the wind direction was such that the main face of Scafell Crag was in the lee of the storm. The rock was almost perfectly dry and… nearly 40 years after first deciding it was on my to do list, I finally climbed this Lakeland classic with Rob. Finishing the route and scrambling over the top we were met by a maelstrom of gusting twisting wind! A great day out!
