What I love the most about this photo is that no one would guess that it was actually taken in the beautiful city of Palermo. It looks like a war zone. It actually illustrates perfectly a phenomenon quite specific to Italy, that seems to have so many landmarks and historical buildings that it can abandon some of them. All across Sicily you would see churches in decay and hear stories on how people find archeological artefacts in their backyard and actually throw them away so that it doesn’t interfere with their construction plans.
