Kathak is one of the 8 classical dance forms of India whose origins can be traced back . The word "kathak" comes from "katha- vachak or kathakaar" which means story teller. It developed as a means of telling mythological stories. Two main features are the footwork and the spins. Experienced dancers produce melodious sounds through rhythmic footwork and do upto 100 spins in one go. After the Mughal invasion of India, kathak became a medium of entertainment in the courts of Mughal rulers. As a result, it is the only dance form to exist in both Hindu and Muslim culture in the Indian subcontinent
