Steptoe Butte is an isolated protrusion of quartzite bedrock rising high above the surrounding hills at 3,612-feet. A state park since 1946, this “island in the sky” offers expansive views of Washington's Palouse region. During the spring, the surrounding farm lands turn to brilliant hues of green and yellow, as seen here in this photograph of a spring evening on May 14, 2023
