My then fiancée and I were forced to move back home—a place neither of us wanted to be. We’d both been living in Houston for several years, and moving back home felt like a significant step backwards in life. Much more so, because it seemed to be a place forever stuck in time. Many of the buildings in the poorer parts of the city haven’t changed since I was a child—others even longer. I was driving down the road one day and saw the side of one of the buildings and needed to stop and take a picture. It was the perfect expression of what I felt needed to change with the city and it’s people.
