Mont Blanc, in the Mont-Blanc massif, is the highest point in the Alps. With an altitude of 4,809 meters, it is the highest peak in Western Europe and the sixth in the continental plan taking into account the mountains of the Caucasus, whose Elbrus (5,642 meters) is the highest peak. It is located on the Franco-Italian border, between the Haute-Savoie department (in France) and the Aosta Valley (in Italy); this border is the subject of a dispute between the two countries.
