Back in October 2014 - I decided to climb the highest peak in North Africa. Day one we hiked the 8 hrs to the refuge at 11,000ft and rested at altitude. We woke 3am to begin the 3hr hike to ascend the remaining 3,000ft - Easily the hardest, climbing at night in the howling wind. It was hard going, the floor covered in ice and unable to see beyond my head torch we continued to climb in the shadow of the mountain. It wasn’t until 6am when we crested the peak of the mountain that we realised the time as dawn bathed us in warm light, the first bit of warmth we had experienced in hours.
