While we were on vacation at the beach we went to a sand-sculpture contest. This was one of the sand-sculpture contest entries. The tide was coming in and it had just breached into the moat of this one. The sand was eroding quickly and a boy who probably helped build it was hurling rocks and bits of driftwood back into the briny deep. While there is a warmth and a sense of playfulness to this photo, it also captures the relentless, uncaring, perpetual power of nature – that no matter what we create, it can be so easily destroyed.
