Snout Beetles owe the name to the sometimes strongly extended head with the probes that are often in the middle or at the very front. Some species have a snout that is not as strongly extended (for example, species from the subfamily Scolytinae) and there are also beetles from other infra-orders that have a somewhat extended ‘snout’, so that confusion may occur in some species.
