The present Kowloon Park opened in 1970 used to be Whitfield Barracks of the British colonial army. The Hong Kong Heritage Discovery Centre is housed in two old barrack buildings, S61 & S62 built in 1890s. Exhibitions display archaeological discoveries, finds unearthed and antique Chinese architectural style in Hong Kong. It is a Historical Building. It was restored in 2003 and converted into the present Heritage Discovery Centre in 2005. Architectural features are a mixture of East and West, like deep flattened arch, pitched tarred Chinese tiled roofs, raised semi-basement for local climate.
