Black Balsam Knob is located in the Shining Rock Wilderness Area of Western North Carolina. At 6,200 ft elevation, dark skys are abundant here, making it ideal for star gazing and astrophotography. Among the highest peaks in Appalachia, it rises over 4,000 ft above the surrounding valleys.
