The Netherlands is -among other plants ;-)- famous for it's tulips. To breed more tulips for next year and to export, tulip fields are the way to do this. At the peak of the flowering the flower gets harvested so all the energy -the remains of the plant- goes into growing the underground bulb and multiply-ing it. after 6 to 7 weeks of growing without the flower the bulbs get harvested as wel an prepared for export and the production of next year. Around easter the tulip fields are at their full glory and this attracts tourist and locals to the fields to experience the abundance of colours.
