purple petaled flower blooming during daytime

I love visiting the little town of Harmony, California, near where I live. Their claim to fame is that they have a population of 18! It's a small artist conclave — and you can actually rent out the entire town! On my last visit, I was captivated by these amazingly colorful and interesting flowers. After returning home I looked them up and discovered that they are "Whirligig flowers," also known as Osteospermum, African Daisies or Cape Daisies.
