We’d been camping on the Olympic peninsula and we were looking for a place to stay for our last night. We took our Jeep out onto the beach looking for a place to camp and after about 30 minutes of driving we came to a river that ran through the sand and obstructed our path. In hindsight what I consider a rather reckless move, we forded the river, and were nearly swept away. With our nerves shot, we stopped driving, made camp and built a fire. As we watched Orion march across the sky, we felt alive in a way that makes you feel invincible.
