Temporarily blocked in by a wave of ice, we hung out on the shore of this remote island, a couple miles from base camp. Fear was not on our mind, we could only sense the solitude in this place. Watching from above as the expedition members mingled provided a calm, detached perspective, from which I could see the source of the crumbling ice.
