This cactus was found on Pa’rus Trail which follows the Virgin River in Zion National Park of southern Utah. I took this picture while on a morning walk and the array of bright red flowers stood out to me. I hiked the same trail the following day and saw a black-chinned humming bird on this very cactus. The cactus species is known as the kingcup, claretcup, or mojave mound cactus (echinocereus triglochidiatus).
