After a slightly stressful journey from Konya, I arrived in my stay in Cappadocia, and that evening literally raced up the steep town of Uçhisar to reach the peak of the rock castle at the town’s summit. I took plenty of photos of the sunset and the golden hillsides, but this is one of my favourites, as it showcases the remarkable geological features that make the Cappadocian landscape so unlike anywhere else in the world: jagged clefs and shadowy “chimneys” set against broad layers of weathered sandstone, worn away through years of trampling under hooves and the carving of human ingenuity.
