Good portrait photography can be a tricky thing to achieve when asking a subject to act or look ‘natural’. When taking portraits of children, I start off by asking them not to smile… 99% of the time they like to do the opposite! By using this playful technique, it helps a child to feel comfortable and less pressured to ‘act’ in front of the camera - turning a formal photo moment into something fun and a little bit silly!
