I was volunteering at a recycling facility in a small, run-down portion of the Dominican Republic when I captured this shot. The facility used old paper to create jewelry to sell and provide for the workers and their families. The two men that I snapped this photo of had been hard at work the entire time I was there, but that didn’t stop them from flashing a genuine smile in my direction, despite the heat and labor. I feel as if this photo captures the man’s condition, but is interesting to me as there is so much more personality outside of the lens; shown in the way he reacted to me.
