Torrey Pine State Beach, CA

In the community of La Jolla, in San Diego, California, the Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve is the home to the rare Torrey pine tree. Also an endangered species, the Torrey pine grows only in the Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve, coastal northern San Diego county, and on one of the Channel Islands. The coastal cliffs of the reserve look out over Torrey Pines Beach, pictured here, where we explored—as well as the eight miles of trails within the park—late last December.
