The Panthéon in Paris has always seemed like the city’s most understated destination. This monument to church and state has the most incredible decorative ceiling, and has never seemed to attract anywhere as many tourists as Paris’s other attractions. Beneath this stunning ceiling, deep in the catacombs, lie the tombs of the philosopher Voltaire, the writer Victor Hugo, the scientist Marie Curie, and even the leader of the French Resistance Jean Moulin among many others.
