Since I've been in an abstract geology mood lately...here's an usual formation in Crook County, Oregon. For lack of a better word, I'd describe the appearance of this formation as "gooey". This formation is made out of a soft, porous material, giving it that smooth texture. The red and black bands are actually old plant and bio matter from prehistoric eras. Cool, eh?
