The Piani di Bobbio are easily reachable by cable car from Barzio, 10 minutes from Lecco and less than an hour from Milan. The Piani di Bobbio take this curious name from Bobbio, in the province of Piacenza; in fact they were the high mountain pastures owned by an important Piacenza abbey, from which they take their name. The term Piani is typical of the valley, which distinguishes a flat area at high altitude.
