They seem so tropical, but they flourish in the Netherlands and Germany! In the winter they feed in our cold Grevenlingenmeer or IJsselmeer. They breed just across the border in Germany. In this fantstic swamp! Alongside some 16.000 black-headed gulls and a colonie of cormorants. Would this area have been in the Netherlands, the land would have been just green grass and flat.
