They were on the same Metro carriage as I was. 6 of them. Stoic and comfortable looking amongst the forlorn early morning commuters. We got off at the same station. They metronomically fell into step, two by two by two, the most senior of the nuns leading out the group front left. I was on my way to St Peter’s Basilica at the Vatican. No need to look out or ask for directions. I latched on softly to the gruppo and we made our way through the empty cobbled streets at dawn. Still not a word from any of the nuns.
