These are two of the oil platforms off of Santa Barbara, California (off the famed Rincon Beach), superimposed against a sunset. This location (the Santa Barbara Channel) was the site of the third largest oil spill in United States waters (after Deepwater Horizon and Exxon Valdez)–killing an estimated 3,500 sea birds, and countless sea animals–in 1969, and where, most recently, in 2015, another spill despoiled another 20 miles of the coast.
