There wasn't another soul in sight as night fell on the remote Christmas Valley Sand Dunes in the Oregon High Desert. I got turned around in my car--very easy to do out there--and had to stop for a moment to gather my bearings. The sky was casting this eerie purple light over the desolate landscape and even though I was momentarily lost, I grabbed by camera to capture that violet glow and the beautiful natural color gradient in the desert sky. There's something both amazing and terrifying about being this far removed from other people, but I'm definitely glad I made the trip.
