green leaf in close up photography

I cut the base of the leaf off cleanly and placed it into a container with pure red food colour (Queen brand, pillar box red). I left it in the food colour for 17 hours and then later photographed the underside of the leaf with lighting coming from behind. I was not sure how well this would work, but I think the details of the leaf veins combined with the complementary colours of red and green have resulted in some striking images. I think they would work well printed onto large stretched canvases in hotels or homes, especially if you want to create a tropical atmosphere.
