One of the areas on Skye I had researched for compositions beforehand was a small loch nestled underneath Beinn Dearg Bheag (582 m/1,909 ft). From what I could make out it offered wonderful views towards one of Skye’s more well-known mountains, Blàbheinn (pronounced BLA-vein, meaning “blue mountain”) (929 m/3,047 ft). Happily it’s also on the way to Elgol, one of our favourite Skye locations. Upon approaching the loch we could clearly see from the road that it was offering a near perfect reflection of Blàbheinn in the post-sunrise light, so we quickly parked up in a layby and started shooting
