golden hour over mountain range

Hiking to the summit of Craggy Gardens (a peak in the Blue Ridge Mountains of NC) took about an hour longer than we expected. The normal trailhead was closed off, which caused us to take the long route. We got to the top only to discover we hadn’t prepared for the fierce winds that were waiting for us on the exposed field at the summit from which I took this picture. It was absolutely freezing, and constantly getting colder as the sun sunk beneath the horizon. Our hands were freezing, but starting at the landscape that surrounded us, everything was fine (if only for a moment).
