Wave Too Close for Comfort

I was happily taking pictures of crashing waves near Carmel, California when one wave came a lot closer than I expected. I took this photo a split second before it completely drenched me. I spent the rest of the day walking around in soggy clothes and shoes. The tendrils of foam remind me of the “clutching claws” in Hokusai’s famous print “The Great Wave off Kanagawa”.
