calm water under white clouds during golden hour

I headed out to Piha to watch a sunset in early March, 2018. The two people I was with - Chiara & Tom - were busy exploring Lion Rock when I quickly grabbed this shot. I had originally planned to shoot with a ND filter on; but the incoming waves kept distracting me. That and the other two pestering me to take portraits of them. The colours were rather average for the most part. However, about five minutes before sunset, the sky exploded. This was the result.
