This tiny Douglas Fir is growing out of a larger, older Douglas Fir immersed in Fairie Lake. It is plainly seen from the side of the road leading out of Port Renfrew, and almost every person passing by will stop, admire this plucky little sapling, and take its photograph. I, too, was inspired to record its achievement to find and maintain a grip on such a meager foundation, and I will check on its progress every time I pass. If this isn’t a symbol of overcoming great odds, then what is?
