black insect on flower

An Australian native bee arrives at a Turnera subulata flower for a breakfast of nectar or to collect pollen. This species is about a fifth of the size of a honeybee and does not sting. The honey these bees produce is popular amongst Australian Aboriginal people and is called sugar bag. There are over 1,500 species of native bees in Australia, as well as the introduced Italian honeybee.
