On my first trip to Burma, I arrived four days early. I was staying near the Golden Pagoda and each morning I would start the day there, trying to make myself part of the fabric of the place. This was in 2011 when it was still uncertain which way things would go in Burma. Who could be trusted? Was I belng followed? It was I doing the following that morning as I captured these three monks outside the west gate of the Schwedagon Pagoda as the bikes and traffic flowed here and there on the streets of Yangon.
