Downtown Las Vegas, New Mexico, has been the backdrop for several films, and one of them was an awful movie 'Red Dawn.' In that movie, the town was called Calumet, and during the night Russian Paratroopers invaded and tried to take over the community, but were warded off by the local kids from the high school. The mural in this shot was painted for the movie and decayed over the years. It got so bad that the town had an artist repaint it and it remains part of Las Vegas history.
