The castle has a complex layout due to many construction phases and restorations over time. It can be divided into three main parts: the "Court of the Reggia" to the south, the "Court of Arms" to the north, and the "Court of the Keep" between the two, altered by late 19th-century modifications. Between the Corte del Mastio and the Corte d'Armi, there is a crenellated curtain wall, an ancient remnant of the municipal walls along the Adigetto. This curtain wall extends from the "Clock Tower" to the bank of the Adige River.
