In late spring and early summer, snow melts replenish these ancient alkali lakes in southern Oregon’s Lake County. I was blown away by the colors, random shapes and patterns, and elegant chaos from Lake Abert’s only inflow. This salty alkali lake doesn’t support much aquatic life aside from brine shrimp, which draws in thousands of migrating birds. Side note: I got many many many bug bites exploring this area.
