People spend so much time looking at the main landmark at the Painted Hills that they've missed the many square miles of absurd geology all around them. Did the 5 million other photographers who go to the Painted Hills even know there was a lake in the area? The colors in this photo blew me away, between the red and white soil, the vibrant green plants, and the dark blues and greens from the very clear lake. This is from a series of texture shots I'm uploading of the Painted Hills Unit at the John Day Fossil Beds National Monument, and other locations in central Oregon.
