The Grande Dixence Dam is a located in Val d'Hérens in Canton of Valais, Switzerland. The construction of this dam was an exceptional human and technical endeavour for its time. The construction began in 1950, was completed in 1961 and comissioned in 1965. You may notice that you can see no trees and that the grass is thin. There is a good reason for that: the dam is located at an altitude of 2'365 meters. So, you can imagine the working conditions in the winter.
