This area in Kennedy Town, the western most district on Hong Kong Island, is called the 7 Terraces in Sai Wan(means Western district). In 1920s, old buildings were built on terraces on the hillside, facing the western entrance of Victoria Harbour. Residents were mostly wealthy people. There are lanes in front of the buildings and connected by a main staircase street, Sands Street. Present buildings are 2nd or third generations in 1970s, but the high stone terraced structure could still be seen at the corner of Ching Lin Terrace. This area represents a historical residential area 100 years ago.
