Tung Wah Hospital was a historical hospital and charity organisation in Hong Kong established by some renowned Chinese people in 19th century in 1870. The hospital is still running. There are three hospitals under the Tung Wah Group of Hospitals. The organisation is one of the oldest and largest charity organisation in Hong Kong. The hospital is in Tai Ping Shan district, which was one of the earliest developed district on Hong Kong Island after Hong Kong Island was ceded to Britain in 1842 after the Opium War of Britain against China. Large population moved into this area during the 1860s.
