a painting of a large building in the middle of a field

Gibside Hall, oil painting. From a photograph taken in 1970s. An empty shell, once owned by the Earls of Strathmore. The Queen mothers family. Also Painted by Turner. It’s wealth came from coal mining and farming. Est. in 12th century. Furniture from the Hall is now kept in Glamis Castle, Scotland. The childhood home of Queen Elizabeth II and the Queen Mother. Gibside holds an especially emotional place in my life. Of family, home and ancestral belonging. The hall a strong yet distant presence. Visited by the Queen Mother in the 1960s-70s. Precious memories, of carefree youth and play.
